Fondazione Palazzo Ducale Genova

TWENTY OBJECTS FOR TWENTY YEARS OF THE WOLFSONIANA. 2005-2025
May 22, 2025 – 19 October, 2025

In 2005, the Wolfsoniana inaugurated its museum in the Nervi neighbourhood of Genoa. Over the years, more than thirty exhibitions and numerous events—including book presentations, conferences, concerts, theatrical performances, and public talks—have been held here, working in synergy with the Wolfsoniana Study Center of Palazzo Ducale.

In these twenty years, the exposition layout, with some highlights of the Collection installed permanently, such as the neo-Egyptian room, the Fontana living room or the children’s room by Antonio Rubino, has been transformed, offering to the public the opportunity to explore in depth the numerous themes addressed by the Wolfsoniana through a wide range of artistic issues.

The museum has also received numerous donations, which have significantly expanded the Collection over time, as well as exhibitions organized by institutions, artists, and collectors who have established fruitful collaborative relationships with the Wolfsoniana over this long period. The association American Friends of Palazzo Ducale, established in 2020 in Miami, has been providing significant support for the growth of the collection through new acquisitions.

In line with Mitchell Wolfson Jr.’s desire and aspiration to not consider the museum as a static exhibition space, but as a workshop for cultural initiatives, the Wolfsoniana, over the last twenty years, has organized several exhibitions in museums and cultural venues across Italy and abroad, particularly at the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa. Since 2014, the Palazzo Ducale Foundation has owned the Collection and has overseen its activities. Loans to major national and international exhibitions have also been substantial during this period.

For this reason, on May 21st, in the presence of Micky Wolfson, the exhibition 20 × 20 will open, showcasing twenty emblematic works, representative of the historical and artistic variety of the Collection, along with significant additions and transformations to the museum’s permanent exhibition. The exhibition will celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the activity of the Wolfsoniana museum, in connection with the Wolfsonian-FIU of Miami Beach which will celebrate in the same year the thirtieth anniversary of the opening of its museum headquarters in the Washington Storage Building, a Moorish-style building within the famous Art Deco District.  On this occasion, the Wolfsonian-FIU organized the exhibition Making Connections: Genoa and the Wolfsoniana, which will be opened on November 11th.
