Fondazione Palazzo Ducale Genova

Art Residency
June 1–30 2025

The project begins with an art residency inside Palazzo Ducale and concludes with an exhibition at the Loggia degli Abati. During the month of June, artist Jacopo Benassi will create a new photographic work, transforming Palazzo Ducale into an open studio accessible to the public and animated by talks, workshops, and a performance. The residency will culminate in the presentation of the new work, which, after the exhibition, will become part of the Villa Croce Museum collection. Photographer and performer, Benassi develops an intense and personal visual investigation. His work explores the body, identity, and relationships with others, moving between photography, performance, and independent publishing.

Jacopo Benassi (b. 1970, La Spezia) is an Italian artist and photographer. Active since the 1980s, he began his journey in underground music circles, gradually developing a raw, instinctive visual language characterized by intense use of his camera’s flash. His work spans photography, performance, painting, and installation, consistently maintaining a tactile and intimate approach. He has published numerous books and zines and currently lives and works in La Spezia.
